Worst Laptop Design, Touchpad, Tech Support
Posted By admin on August 23, 2010

Ever since American author and computer designer Adam Osbourne's portable computer invention became commercially available in 1981 –for a whopping $1795!– laptops have made business and communication more accessible from almost anywhere in the world.
Nowadays, laptops share the same task but offer different features. When choosing a laptop, some things you'll want to consider are: size and weight, drives, processors, networking capability, video, warranty, and battery life. This blog gives you a "heads up" on low scores in the areas of laptop design, touchpads, and technical support.
1. DESIGN: Laptop Magazine gave a huge thumbs down to the 1999 Apple iBook that was reminiscent of "a toilet seat in a cheap motel." Other design flunkers included the 2003 Dell Inspiron 5150, the 2001 IBM ThinkPad TransNote, the 2003 Sharp Actius RD3D and the 2006 Velocity Micro NoteMagix L80.
2. TOUCHPADS: CNET Asia reviewed size, texture, multitouch and mouse button features on laptop and netbook touchpads. The review chided Fujitsu Lifebook MH380 for its "postage-stamp sized" touchpad, reproached Lenovo ThinkPad X100e for packing in a trackpoint and extra buttons above and below the touchpad, and the Asus Eee PC 105 for a touchpad that simply feels "annoying" under the fingers.
3. TECH SUPPORT: Laptop Magazine judged friendliness, efficiency, and speed of tech support reps from twelve of the major companies in "Tech Support Showdown 2010". Inquiries included how to achieve faster booting time, file sharing and changes to power settings. In addition, Showdown 2010 rated accessibility of data on websites, including live chats, e-mails with reps, FAQs and forums. Of the twelve companies, Acer and Gateway earned a lowly D+.
