Without the power supply unit, or adapter, your laptop computer will not work at all. The mobility of the laptop is its greatest attribute, but constantly moving you laptop around leads to one of the most common failures in the laptop power supply units, which occurs in their power cords and connectors. Computer repair is possible in the situation where the DC cable on your power supply breaks or is damaged.
If the cable is damaged near the DC jack, it can easily be repaired in a few steps, but you'll have to cut the cable and replace the old connector with a new one. Find a suitable coaxial cable connector (barrel connector) for your laptop model. Prepare the wire by cutting the cable off about 10-20 mm from the DC connector, strip the cable inside and twist the wires of the braid shield together. Inner conductor should also be stripped, and then solder the new barrel connector onto the stripped cord, making sure polarities are aligned.
