A new research study conducted on Irish teenagers revealed that, students perform better in computer oriented tests as compared to printed words. These students were proved to be above average in an international digital literacy, after a test of comprehension of texts conducted on computer.
The education Minister Ruairi Quinn was in the opinion that there has been a decline in reading standards of Ireland over the past 10 years among the 15 year olds. ERC director Dr. Peter Archer said that "Some students found computer context more fascinating than printed test." In 2009, the OECD scored students, in a 40-minute online test on computer and in print. The results of the computer based test ranks Ireland above the OECD average and Ireland ranked 11th on the print reading test.
